坂倉準三が設計した前橋西武デパートを改装してできたアーツ前橋の展示空間。

その空間に廃業されたガソリンスタンドの建築写真６３点と、アラスカで撮影された石油輸送のパイプラインの写真５点。

さらに、ガソリンスタンドを探しているときに発見した破裂したタイヤを編み込むようにして作成した『Texture_』のシリーズから４点を展示。

写真は目の前に見えているもののみならず、その場所に潜む見えない何かをとらえています。雄大なランドスケープや身近な街の風景、何気ない日常生活の一場面をとらえた写真が、その場所の歴史的、社会的な背景や、そこに流れてきた膨大な時間、記憶の痕跡を想起させます。「見えるもの」と「見えないもの」とは、写真のみならず、芸術における根源的なテーマでもあります。

本展はそうした写真の見えないものをとらえる力に着目し、前橋をはじめとする群馬全域、 さらに広域にわたるエリアを作家それぞれが独自の視点でとらえ、多様な手法を用いて表現し た最新作を含めて構成しています。見過ごされているものや、場所が内包するものへと眼差しが向けられていくことで、見慣れた自然や街、日常の風景の中に潜在的な景色が現れてきます。

Photographs capture not only what you see in front of you, but also something invisible that lurks in that place. Photographs of magnificent landscapes, familiar cityscapes, and ordinary scenes of daily life evoke the historical and social background of the place, as well as traces of the vast amount of time and memories that have passed there. The “visible” and the “invisible” are fundamental themes not only in photography but also in art.　　Focusing on the power of photography to capture the invisible, this exhibition is composed of the latest works by the artists, each of whom has captured Maebashi, the entire Gunma region, and even wider areas from their own unique perspective and expressed them using a variety of techniques. By focusing on what is overlooked and what a place contains within it, latent landscapes emerge in familiar nature, towns, and everyday landscapes.
